Scarecrow Contest Rules:

  • Scarecrows can be constructed of any non-hazardous material: straw, metal, cloth, etc.
  • No scarecrow may depict a real person. All scarecrows must be in good taste or will be removed.
  • Entry Forms may be picked up at the Haywood County Extension Office. Entry forms also available online.
  • Entry Forms must be returned to the Extension Office by Friday, October 4, 2010.
  • Scarecrows must be set-up on the courthouse lawn by Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 5 p.m., and will remain there until after the Hatchie Fall Fest on October 16, 2010.
  • Judging will begin at 5 p.m., Saturday, October 9. A panel of regional judges will be selected. No Haywood County residents, Haywood County Master Gardeners or scarecrow entrants will be allowed as judges. Judges decisons are final.
  • Ribbons indicating place will be attached to winning scarecrows on Saturday, October 9. Cash prizes and prize packages will be awarded at 5 p.m., Saturday, October 16, from the main stage at the Hatchie Fall Fest.
  • Scarecrows can remain on the courtsquare until October 23.
  • There are two (2) categories for competition:
    • Adults (Industry, Business, Club, Group or Individual)
    • Children (School, Club, Group or Individual)
  • Additional prizes packages will be awarded for:
    • Most Creative (all entries are eligible for this prize)
    • People’s Choice (all entries are eligible, winner will be chosen by cast ballot on Saturday, October 16.)

Cash Prizes:

Prizes for Category I & II are:
  • 1st: $100.00
  • 2nd: $75.00
  • 3rd $50.00

Most Creative & People’s Choice Prizes will be announced day of festival.
